If you ask me, nothing beats a good chess puzzle. Back in the age of newspapers I remember flipping to the page where they would publish a daily chess puzzle. Usually you could find the puzzles printed right after the comics. The idea was simple. You had to figure out a combination of moves that would result in checkmate. Some were easy, some were challenging, and many of them were downright brilliant. Before the internet, finding an opponent to play chess with was hard, and the puzzle in the newspaper was the best we had. Many of us fell in love with chess based solely on chess puzzles.
