Couch Reader: Heise
Detailed App Info:
Application Description
"Heise publishes the magazines c't (the computer magazine with the highest number of subscribers in Europe), iX (focusing on UNIX/Linux-related issues), the German edition of Technology Review and the online magazine Telepolis. These publications feed into the Heise News Ticker, which ranks among the most successful German language news portals which includes a frequented user forum." From en.wikipedia.org.
Though the heise mobil news ticker is fast and good on the iPhone, it's not enough for the real fan, because of it's lack of the user forum.
The layout of the standard web Heise News Ticker is well readable on the iPhone, but it's very difficult to navigate. Very often one has to zoom in to navigate to the next topic.
Couch Reader: heise is the solution to this. The significant links for browsing are implemented as buttons. Content and layout are left untouched. However the navigation is significant faster.
Suggestions and disclaimer: Of course the performance is best with a wlan connection. Try the "GoTo" button. Sometimes, if the connection is too slow, or the user is too fast :-) (the navigation buttons are presented far before the web site is rendered) the appliction will stop at a certain point to get all threads in sync. Just click on the link if you're not automatically redirected to the next link. Your last visited site will be remebered after a new start or phone call. It's possible but not suggested to browse sites beyond the heise sites, cause the application is made and tested only for the heise sites. If heise changes the structure of their pages, it may be the case that parts or the whole application will not work as assumed. The contents of the sites are left untouches. The author of the application is not responsible for the content of the site and has no association to the "Heise Verlag" other than being a constant reader.
