This is the second in a series of 5 apps in which Emily Kwok and Stephan Kesting share the secrets to defeating bigger, stronger opponents on the ground using Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

The focus of this app is compensating for strength. The techniques have been chosen specifically because they work on people much stronger than you.

First you'll learn the guard sweep system Emily uses when she's on the bottom.

The reality is that against a bigger opponent you WILL end up on the bottom at some point. But with the techniques on this app you'll be able to defend yourself, sweep your opponent and get to the top.

We also cover what to do if your first attack doesn't succeed, because you don't want to be left without a plan.

The next section covers guard passing. You'll learn how to cut through the guard of much larger opponent like a hot knife through butter. These techniques are proven to work at an elite level because stop you from being manhandled, stalled out, and/or submitted as you pass.

Finally we cover pin escapes.

You'll learn the right techniques and strategies to use if you find yourself pinned on the bottom. You may be temporarily down but definitely not out; these are the best ways to survive the smother, escape the pin, and get back into the game!

Larger grapplers often just use their their strength, size and weight advantages to overpower you. It's very frustrating to get pinned and smothered by a less skilful opponent whose only advantage is having additional muscle.

Big guys have much stronger upper bodies, which is why they can just 'bench press' his way out of a bad position. But if you try this then not only will it be ineffective but it will leave your arms limp, drained, and feeling completely powerless.

Plus it's scary when big guys don't know how to control their strength and weight, and have no clue how to train with smaller people. Injuries are the bane of training, and are often caused by Sasquatch-like grapplers who go totally 'agro' when their egos are threatened.

In this series of apps you'll have two Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belts show you the techniques and strategies to defeat even the biggest, strongest, scariest attackers on the ground. Crazy speed, flexibility, or athleticism are NOT required; the emphasis is on staying safe and preventing injuries at all times.

Emily is a multiple time BJJ world champion, both with and without the gi. She's taught and worked with thousands of grapplers of all levels.

Stephan Kesting is a BJJ black belt, and a Combat Submission Wrestling instructor. He's been training in the martial arts for over 30 years and is the founder Grapplearts.com.
