‘Grandpa,’ Hannah asked, ‘have you seen my peppermint? It was on the table just a minute ago.’
‘Oh, that peppermint?’ Grandpa asked surprised. ‘Was it yours?’
Hannah nodded. ‘I was saving it for when I really, really wanted a peppermint.’
‘Oh,’ said Grandpa sheepishly. ‘I, um, didn’t know that. Was it your last one?’
Hannah nodded again.
Grandpa thought for a moment. ‘Maybe your peppermint rolled off to the Land of Mislaid.’
Hannah looked at her Grandpa. ‘What?’
‘When things disappear, that’s where they usually go,’ he said. ‘The Island Realm of Mislaid.’
‘Is the island far away?’ Hannah asked.
‘Oh, yes,’ said Grandpa. ‘Beyond the Seven Seas, I believe. Off the coast of South America.’
‘We have to catch it!’ Hannah said. ‘Before it gets there and decides to stay forever!’
