Application Description
Pilot Rest Assistant is THREE APPS in one! This app will assist Airline Pilots flying under Part 121 while applying the complex FAR 121.471 (Federal Aviation Regulation) that addresses rest requirements. It is intended for use on those occasions when operational delays or rescheduled duty periods cast uncertainty on the adequacy of scheduled rest.
1) REQUIRED REST CALCULATOR
Simply answer the questions to arrive at your Required Rest. If you are already on Reduced Rest, you are calculating your Compensatory Rest. Otherwise you are calculating your Normal Rest - and what you can be reduced to. There is Help available for anyone needing a refresher on how the "24 Hour Look Back Window" works.
In order to determine Required Rest, certain flight times must be analyzed. An interface is provided to enter flight departure and arrival times, but if you simply want a quick "ballpark" answer you can bypass that detail and just enter your estimate (less than 8 hours, 8-9 hours, more than 9 hours) and get your answer. Every detail of this app was thoughtfully designed for quick and simple user interaction. No need to enter dates - just times. Duty periods are referred to as "Previous Duty Period", "Current Duty Period", and "Next Duty Period" for simplicity.

2) DUTY DAY CALCULATOR
Simply set the dials to match the start of your "Duty Day" and you will immediately see the time that your next rest period must begin. You can even customize the length of your Duty Day, if your Contract or Company Policy is more limiting than the 16 hr Duty Day that the FAR specifies.
3) ACTUAL REST CALCULATOR
Simply set the dials to match the starting and ending times of your rest period, and you will immediately see the total number of hours and minutes in your rest period.
The rest regulations will be changing at some point. This app will then be updated and current users will receive the new version at a substantial savings, as an "In App Purchase". In the meantime, we know you will find this version a valuable addition to your flight bag.
