About the Ryman Isthmian Football League:

The Isthmian League was formed on 8th March 1905 by clubs in the London area who wanted a strong league to be set up for amateur teams to compete in.

Originally famous for its motto, “honour sufficit”, no cup was awarded to the champions nor were there any medals for players. Honour was the only reward.

The Isthmian League has always looked to innovate and better the game in many ways. The league was the first league to have sponsorship, the first to offer prize money to promote more goals and encourage fair play, the first league to adopt 3 points for a win and the first to use goal difference.

In light of this, and the ever-changing face of football the league has enhanced its media presence with the creation of a mobile app.

The Ryman League now encompasses 66 clubs across three divisions covering London and the South West of England. This season over 3,000 players will feature in league matches.
