SavHGuide
Detailed App Info:
Application Description
Walk around the city of Savannah, Georgia, seeing its most important historical homes, squares and colonial venues. This app will help you find your way around like a local, knowing which are the most important historical locations and how to find them easily. The directional guidance and historical information liberates you to experience Savannah at your own pace without concern for getting lost.
English General James Oglethorpe founded Savannah in 1733 and created the first and perhaps most successful city plan in America characterized by a street grid regularly interspersed with beautiful city parks. With its density of historical colonial buildings and its Spanish-moss covered live oak trees, it can be surprisingly easy to get confused about directions in the Historic District. SavHGuide solves that problem! Touch the "Find" button and it displays a large, high contrast arrow pointing to your selected destination. Switch back and forth between the arrow a focused city street map to confirm your path.
To help plan your visit, there is a city map of Savannah populated with historic site place-markers. The list of historical sites can be arranged alphabetically or by proximity to your current location. For example, you can choose to visit next the closest historic location, which is usually within a few city blocks.
There is even a handy "Car Finder" feature which enables you to store the location of your parked car and get guidance (arrow and map) back to it. This feature works anywhere covered by gps, not just Savannah.
The description of each historic site includes a high resolution photograph and informative text with key historical facts.
This app contains no ads or upgrade promotions. Internet access is used only to upload local maps which become cached for later use.
