In SWOT, strategists will extract the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats to their organizations, whereas in TOWS they will trigger their minds to match internal environment factors (Strengths and Weaknesses) with an external environmental factors (Opportunities and Threats); by applying these connections, the outcome may become one of the following aspects:
1. SO Strategies
Use Strengths points to take advantage of Opportunities.
2. WO Strategies
Improve internal Weaknesses points by taking advantage of external Opportunities.
3. ST Strategies
Use Strengths points to avoid or reduce the impact of external Threats.
4. WT Strategies
Try to avoid Weaknesses and Threats points together.
A good metaphor of describing above categories is an eagle; its head is SO; this head will be responsible of monitoring external opportunities and decide to go in that direction.
