The Beat Detector listens to the music around you and detects the tempo in BPM (beats per minute). It can even give you an estimate of the signature (meter) of the music, distinguishing between 3/4 and 4/4.

Note: in popular music it is sometimes difficult to distinguish between beats and half beats - that's why it's possible that the Beat Detector may show the half or double of the "correct" tempo.
