Longing to be out in Chicago but not sure where to go? Looking to make a personal connection with sites where people have made LGBT history in the Windy City? This guide features both the contemporary and the bygone and takes a deeper look at a history that reaches far beyond the typical “gayborhoods” you may know and love, and spans over 150 years of urban life.
* About the Authors *
The Chicago History Museum, the oldest cultural institution in the city, produced this app on the heels of its successful 2011 exhibition Out in Chicago, which looked at Chicago history through the lens of LGBT people. Launched during the 10th anniversary of the Museum’s Out at CHM series,this app takes Chicago history lovers out to the streets, reflects the Museum’s mission to “share Chicago’s stories, serving as a hub of scholarship and learning, inspiration, and civic engagement.” The content was research and co-authored by Jill Austin and Liz Garibay.
