CrowdCom
Detailed App Info:
Application Description
Ever been in a crowded situation, such as a concert, sports event, or at the end of a busy marathon race? If you have, you’ve probably experienced the frustration of trying to locate and meet up with your friends and loved ones when all of the phone networks are jammed from too many people trying to use them in the same small area.
This is why CrowdCom was conceived. At the end of her races, Reese was fed up of waiting hours to get a cell phone signal to finally be able to text or call her family and friends and meet up. Without the ability to communicate in a scrum of tens of thousands of people, you can walk past the person you’re looking for even if they’re five feet away.
CrowdCom uses your Bluetooth connection to link up with any other devices running CrowdCom within the signal radius of your device. Obviously, this is no good for long distance, but in the crowded confines of a marathon finish line, or a sports arena, this signal radius encompasses a lot of people and area.
CrowdCom will give you the approximate distance you are from each connected device (the accuracy of this depends on how good the GPS signal of each device is), and also allows you broadcast and receive messages to all connected devices.
If you’re only interested in messages and connections from your group or team’s members then you can enter a ‘group name’ in the app’ settings. CrowdCom will then only connect with other devices that have the same group name as you. In Reese’s case, her team’s name is RunReeseRun, and she only sees other people that are in her team.
The limited distance on bluetooth signals means that this app is not intended to be a replacement for your text messages - if the app is not open, you will not receive any messages, and you can only send and receive messages to and from other people currently actively running CrowdCom. It was created to make finding your friends and loved ones in low or no-signal environments, such as a very crowded venue with thousands of people using their cell phones, or a subway train or platform.
All proceeds of this app go to the RunReeseRun Foundation, which is a charity committed to making the world a better place. More information can be found at www.RunReeseRun.org.
PLEASE NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE BLUETOOTH ENABLED ON YOUR DEVICE WHEN USING THIS APP.
