Danyelle Wolf
Detailed App Info:
Application Description
Every young athlete dreams of a shot at the Olympics, a chance to compete against the best in the world, and to bring home the gold.
Danyelle Wolf is one such dreamer. She has longed for Olympic glory since she was a young girl, but it took 24 years to find the sport that would take her there: boxing.
Women's boxing last appeared in the Olympics in 1904 only as a demonstration, not a serious competition. In 2009, the International Olympic Committee approved Women's Boxing to debut at the London 2012 Games, highlighting just how far the sport has come in recent years.
Wolf has been a competitive athlete her whole life. In college, she was a star in basketball, field hockey, and track. She's spent the last 3 years training to be a boxer, honing her skills and perfecting her technique. Getting to the Olympics will be the biggest challenge of her life, but Wolf relishes the opportunity to prove herself.
"I'll never give up; I have to be the best", she says. "Nobody's going to give it to me, I have to go out there and take it!" She believes her intensive training and determination set her apart from the rest of the pack.
Beneath the tough exterior of a fighter are hidden some surprising layers. Wolf holds three college degrees and is an accomplished artist. Her artistic creativity crosses several mediums and gives her an outlet to relax and clear her mind. Her style includes sketches, paintings, and even sculptures. She continually experiments with new themes and styles. "I like to wow myself," she says, "it takes a lot to 'wow' me. Art is finding a technique that works for you and going for it."
Wolf grew up in York, Pennsylvania and graduated college with a Bachelor of Science in Education, a Bachelor in Art, and a minor in Psychology. She was considered one of the top artists in her college class and draws on her diverse abilities to accomplish her goals. She defies easy categorization and believes she’s more than the sum of all her parts. “I’m not just a boxer, I’m not just an artist, and I’m not just an athlete”, she says. “All of those things help shape who I am and where I’m going.”
