Emotions Playkit
Detailed App Info:
Application Description
Emotions Playkit is a valuable and enjoyable tool for any child.
However children who are on the autistic spectrum often need to be explicitly taught how to recognize their own feelings and other people’s feelings. Some children also have difficulty expressing their feelings in appropriate ways.
Children’s development of emotional intelligence can be fostered by the experiences that we share with them.
Identifying feelings from looking at facial expressions is a skill that helps develop social interaction skills. Furthermore learning ways to express emotions helps children to develop coping strategies for everyday life.
Age Appropriate:
18 months - 8 years
This App has been designed by an Educational Therapist with over 10 years experience working with children who have ASD.
The activities encourage children to participate both verbally and non-verbally.
This multi-sensory method allows children to be actively engaged in learning about emotions.
An inbuilt camera encourages children to take a photo of themselves or another person showing a happy, sad, angry or scared face. Children receive immediate feedback as their face appears on a robot.
Music is used to encourage children to practice associating different sounds with feelings. This gives children an opportunity to express their feelings through movement and drama.
Many children have difficulty calming themselves from stressful situations. Water play and sand drawing are offered as calming strategies.
Children explore cause and effect relationships as they listen to the water, look at the ripples and draw in the sand. Emotions Playkit is designed to motivate children to want to explore and learn.
