A growing toddler relies on his or her immediate environment to develop an understanding of the world. This understanding is shaped by the stimuli they experience on a day-to-day basis – the sights, colors, sounds, and objects they interact with. Taken together, these are the first concepts they grasp and learn as eager little explorers, ready to learn about the world. That is the motivation behind FirstConcepts, which is designed as a simple, fun, and interactive educational tool to teach growing toddlers about their everyday environment.

FirstConcepts offers six different modes of education/play/entertainment:

• Alphabets – A flashcard approach towards introducing the alphabet
• Numbers – A flashcard approach towards introducing numbers from 1 to 25
• Colors – A simple interactive introduction to 21 different colors
• Foods – An introduction to 30 common fruits and vegetables
• Animals – An introduction to 20 farmyard animals and the sounds they make
• Vehicles – An introduction to 19 different vehicles and the sounds they make

Each of these modes is designed to provide a full multimedia experience, with entertaining graphics and music, an introductory sequence for each mode, and a vocal description of each item in a given mode along with sound effects (as applicable).

The app is extremely simple to operate. The opening screen provides a choice between the six different modes. Selecting one of the modes will take the user through an introductory playback sequence of the various items displayed in that mode, following which the first item in the mode is displayed. Advancing to the next item in the mode is achieved by a single touch to any part of the screen. You can also control whether to repeat the object sound effects and voice narration from the settings menu on the main page.
