iABA® – Weight Control
This weight control program utilizes very powerful principles and procedures derived from the science of Applied Behavior Analysis. It was developed by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and has been field tested for its effectiveness. It works!!!
Some of the primary behavioral principles and procedures employed include:
Self-Monitoring. Research has shown that if a person monitors their own behavior, it is much easier for them to control that behavior. This has been shown to be particularly true of eating behavior. Most successful weight control studies have shown the effectiveness of self-monitoring. In iABA® – Weight Control, recording is conveniently and easily made right into the app on the iPhone.
Visual Feedback. Research has shown that visual feedback is a powerful motivator. If the rules are followed, weight loss will occur and after the weight goal is reached, the weight goal will be maintained. The iABA® – Weight Control App provides a simple and convenient way to establish and maintain a graph that visually shows progress from one’s starting weight toward the goal established. This graph can be emailed and printed if desired, but is also viewable on the iPhone.
Stimulus Control. Behavior that is under “stimulus control” is more likely to occur in the presence of that stimulus. In the iABA® – Weight Control App, the iPhone is established as a stimulus that controls eating behavior; that is, it makes it likely that the healthy eating rules will be followed. Since people are rarely outside of the presence of their iPhones, it is highly likely that people will follow the healthy and effective eating rules included in the App everyday.
Rule Governed Behavior. Rather than leave eating behavior to opportunity, whim, or association with an unrelated behavior such reading or watching TV, this program establishes 9 clear rules to follow. People find it easier to follow concrete rules rather than making decisions throughout the day literally each time they have the opportunity to eat. This program does not exclude any food totally. Rather, it provides a set of rules that will be healthy and comfortable to follow indefinitely, that is, not just to lose weight, but also to keep it off.
You have the option of turning any of your rules either “On” or “Off.” Once your weight goal has been reached, you may want to modify some of the rules for your maintenance plan, otherwise, you will just continue to loose weight.
When you are somebody’s guest for a meal, you may eat what is served, with Portion Control.
Every Saturday, the iPhone Calendar will remind you to either “Add a new rule,” or if all the rules are on, to “Follow the rules,” and to “Record your weight on the feedback graph.”
We hope you will join us and others who have successfully used iABA® – Weight Control to lose weight and control their eating behavior and their weight.
