Malala
Detailed App Info:
Application Description
Malala is an education and academic-oriented web browser for iPad and iPhone. Malala is named for Malala Yousafzai, the 14 year old Pakistani education activist. The purpose of the Malala project, linked to the content native to the browser and the evolution of it as well, is to create a web environment for curated educational content and a browser which caters to teaching through the web and other online resources, all designed exclusively for mobile devices.
All navigation for Malala is on the bottom so pages can read more like books. Malala is also the only browser which sychs directly with the calendar in iOS so whenever there is an important event, it gets entered directly into the iPhone or iPad Calendar by simply touching the event on the page.
Malala provides a variety of tools for education content developers on GitHub.
At the bottom of the browser, there are buttons featuring the names of three top schools and the myEDU link, which will all be active in the 1.2 version. We have asked these schools to contribute content so that teachers in economically disadvantaged schools can now have access to content from the best universities in the world. We will also be adding resources for vocational training.
Malala will never have advertising and will only focus on education based content. The mission of Malala is to allow students to better use their iPhone and iPods for learning purposes and for teachers to have better, curated tools to use the web in the classroom without the distractions of surfing.
We are starting small but we hope to become bigger and further the mission of this tiny girl who has rocked the world with her love of education.
Malala will only be available for iOS as Apple has shown a commitment to education over the years and we want this to be a platform of mutual support as well as a conduit for growing the use of iPads in schools which reduces the cost of buying textbooks and saves trees.
