MAX - My Acronym eXtractor
Detailed App Info:
Application Description
Acronyms (e.g., NASA, CAD, AIDS, MRI, ASAP, FYI) are found in all kinds of literature. Writers (e.g., technical writers, scientists, consultants, students) often have to generate tables of acronyms for sizable documents. They also have to provide a definition for each acronym and call each out at first occurrence. My Acronym eXtractor (MAX) dramatically simplifies and accelerates the tedious and time-consuming task of generating a table of acronyms.
MAX
•Detects acronyms in MS Word or similar text files with very high accuracy.
•Creates a table of all acronyms found in the text and sorts it alphabetically.
•Exports this table in MS Word/MS Excel/HTML and XML formats so that users can simply copy and paste it into their own documents.
•Reports how many times each acronym was found.
•Presents the most likely definition found in the text.
•Provides information on whether or not the acronym was defined at the first occurrence or later.
•Optionally pulls definitions for found acronyms from a user-provided source (as comma-separated values).
•Creates new source files of acronyms that can be used as a reference for future documents.
Instead of having to produce and fill an acronym table manually, MAX users can focus on reviewing their MAX output and fine-tuning the results. Using MAX thus saves the user hours of tiresome work.
The writers who developed this app have used this software internally and are now making it available for the first time to outside users. MAX is useful for a wide variety of audiences, including but not limited to: students, teachers, writers, editors, healthcare professionals, project managers, attorneys, and IT professionals.
•Students can use MAX to quickly extract acronyms for a literature review.
•Writers can establish their own knowledgebase of acronyms.
•Scientists can use MAX to survey acronyms when they enter a new field.
•Copyeditors can check very quickly that each acronym has been called out in the correct place.
MAX can process very large numbers of acronyms quickly. Users do not have to install any macros or other add-ons that might cause security concerns. MAX can handle multiple documents simultaneously and save the progress anytime in its own generic format.
Writers, editors, and publishers in all professions looking for a faster and more reliable way to create tables of acronyms will love MAX.
