The NRL's main competition, called the Telstra Premiership (due to sponsorship from Telstra Corporation), is contested by sixteen teams, fifteen of which are based in Australia with one based in New Zealand. It is regarded as the world's elite rugby league championship and, per season, is the single most viewed and attended rugby football competition in the world.
The 2013 NRL season will be the 107th season of professional rugby league's club competition in Australia. The main competition is being contested by National Rugby League teams. The season will start with the 2013 NRL All Stars match played in the pre-season period (February) and will culminate in the 2013 NRL Grand Final on October 6. The 2013 Toyota Cup, an under-20 competition, also takes place alongside the Premiership, with most matches held prior to the first grade competition.
