Reading Cats
Detailed App Info:
Application Description
Join Nat and Pat, a pair of playful cats, as they help your child learn how to read.
Reading Cats is designed for students who are already familiar with the alphabet and are ready to learn to read. A combination of phonics and memorizing sight words is used to teach students this new skill. To make learning to read fun, Reading Cats combines detailed lessons with a fun story about two cute cats.
The lesson portion introduces frequently used English words and words with the short a sound in them. Most of the words are used in the story about two cats. The lessons are spread throughout the story, giving the students only a few words or word sounds to learn at a time. Many words are reinforced throughout the story, giving the students much practice with these new words.
Although the app was designed to go through the lesson before reading the story, the user has the option of just reading the story or having the story read to them, without opening the lessons. In this way, a student who has already had some reading lessons can use Reading Cats to practice their skills, or a student who isn’t ready to read can enjoy the book by having it read aloud.
When the story is being read to you, the words are highlighted in a different color as they are being read. After the page is read to you, there’s an animation to show what the words tell. If you really like the animation, just touch the play button again and you’ll get an instant replay.
Reading on your own and don’t remember a word? Just touch the word and it will be read to you. Then touch the play button and the animation will play.
Sound effects can be turned off for parent’s sanity.
There are about 50 words used in the story, with about 30 being frequently used words and the other 20 being short a words.
