Application Description
Works from the german artist Reinhard Stammer
Extract from the eulogy of art historian Dr. Vöhringer:
Reinhard Stammer is, in the best sense of the word, an autodidact. This term originates from philosopher, author and poet Georg Christoph Lichtenberg. And it feels good that there are autodidacts in art. I call as an example the painters of “Brücke” - who actually were architects - or the painting customs officer Henri Rousseau and I want to cite in this connection the known art critic Uwe Lempelius who has also pointed out within the scope of an exhibition of Reinhard Stammer: Not the fact that one has studied art is a guarantee for the quality of the painted pieces of art, but only the way one paints the pieces of art. Also by the study of the literature, one does not become an author.
Extract from the eulogy of Dr. Uwe Lempelius:
Of course the biggest part of the so-called Sunday painters do not create pieces of art, but there are many who reach this status. And this distinguishes the artist's being from other occupations. There are no autodidactic doctors or lawyers. However, I know several artists without education who are members in an association of artists.
This is why I said that still the opinion is predominant that someone who did not study art cannot be an artist. If I may remind you of the naive customs officer Henri Rousseau whose naive art Picasso discovered once.
I have associated Stammer with the big artists. He has also created many paintings and no viewer would say he is a dilletante if he discovered them in a museum as an exhibit. Not every picture of an artist is worth to be prensented in a museum and of course this is true for Stammer and for me as well.
