Rocket-Launch
Detailed App Info:
Application Description
The movement of objects like satellites in the outer space is dictated by the gravitational force. In order to send them to the desired orbit, we need to launch rocket carrying them to orbit altitude at optimal speed. Then the satellite is released at the point having the shortest distance to earth center, i.e., Perigee (the opposite notion is Apogee). Follow Kepler’s laws, we could derive the required altitude, velocity and angle given orbit we are targeting. Equations proposed centuries ago are still used in aerospace engineering nowadays.
In this app, you will play as a pilot to execute the launching mission. Hope you enjoy it and get some useful stuff out of it!
FEATURES
-- Challenge yourself for different orbits, from circles to ecliptics. Necessary parameters are provide by click the help button.
-- Create your own orbit in the free fly mode. The information of your random orbit will be calculated and visualized.
-- Try ultimate mission to send the satellite to the geostationary orbit, which has the same orbiting period with the earth. Extra transfer orbit is necessary to achieve this.
CONTROLS & TIPS
The flying angle of the rocker is controllable by swiping horizontally. The slider is used to change the view depth. Slow or fast motion is available with the time stepper on the bottom. The callout information along the flying object indicates its current status, such as altitude and speed. Also the altitude is manifested by the text color, which will turn green for optimal orbital altitude.
