Why SnapStill?
We built SnapStill because we wanted a better way to snap still photos from video on our iPhones and iPods.
Sure, you can take screenshots of videos, but it can be a real pain getting the video to pause at the exact moment you’re looking for. Plus, even if you do eventually manage to find exactly what you’re looking for, the screenshot doesn’t use the video’s full resolution, so you end up losing image quality.
SnapStill makes it much easier to get great still photos from video. With SnapStill, you can play or scroll through the video to find the general moment you’re looking for and then move forward or backward one frame at a time, letting you find the precise image you want to snap with the swipe of a finger. And snapping the image requires just one tap—no more monkeying around with the awkward simultaneous button press required to take a screenshot. What’s more, you get the highest quality image possible because the still is snapped at the video’s original resolution.
Once you’ve snapped a still photo, SnapStill keeps a copy for you so you can share it by email, Facebook, Twitter, Weibo, and save it to your Camera Roll. And because SnapStill saves a copy, you can always view it later. When you browse your snapped stills, you can view them all at once like the Photos app or you can focus just on the stills from a particular video. Another nice thing: Your still won’t get deleted until you decide to delete it—even if you decide to delete the original video.
With SnapStill, you can snap any video in your Camera Roll and photo library. You can even upload compatible videos to your Camera Roll using the app’s experimental iTunes File Sharing support. SnapStill will automatically keep the videos available for snapping in sync with the videos in your Camera Roll and photo library.
If you want to see SnapStill in action before downloading it from the App Store, please visit our web site and check out the video demo we created—it delivers a very good idea of how the app works. And if you do decide to download SnapStill, thank you for your support. We think you’ll have have as much fun using it as we had building it.
