Have you ever wanted to share a something with a big group of people- maybe at a wedding, party, or lecture- but haven’t been able to because you don’t have their email addresses, phone numbers, or social network connections? splash is a location-based message and file sharing platform that allows for frictionless transfer of information between people. There are 2 main steps involved in splash: first, one person creates a splash, which is a collection of messages and files that is assigned that person’s current GPS location. Second, other people nearby within close enough range can view the first person’s content. Essentially, splash allows a person to post those wedding pictures, that video from the party, or those lecture slides, and have them to be accessible to everyone at the respective event.

splash also brings an edge to this simple paradigm. First, when creating a splash, users may set a custom radius of how a close another person must be in order to view the splash. This is our first way of giving users control over their posts.

Second, we understand that people may not want to post all of their pictures publicly, so splashes can be password protected. splashes can be given a password at their time of creation which is required to open them. How would other users get their hands on this password to open the splash? They would ask the person who posted the pictures- after all, the person must be nearby.

Third, splash is not a social network. A splash account is only required to post content- not to view content. We aim to create the most frictionless user experience possible which includes limited logins, signups, and distractions.

Fourth, splash is not a permanent storage solution- it is a method of transfer. For this reason, all splashes are deleted after 24 hours.

Finally, splash is growing outside of iOS and becoming a full platform- which only serves to increase the utility of the app. Our web application has been in use by a loyal user base for almost 5 months (opening to more users soon!). While splash iOS users can only post text messages, photos and videos, they can download any file type- powerpoints, word documents, pdfs, and more- posted by our web users. Likewise, splash is useful in the single users instance, as one can use splash to transfer their own files between phone and computer using our platform.

splash is becoming a comprehensive solution for data transfer between nearby parties. It is a simple, elegant application offering just the right balance of restrictions and freedom to share the love.
