Application Description
The Way I See It…
Helping young children understand bullying
Childhood bullying has become an area of national concern, but teaching a young child how to empathize with those who are different has never been easy. The Way I See It…, by Do2Learn, puts your child in the shoes of a student with autism, a fellow classmate, and even a schoolyard bully.
Illustrated with original watercolors by Lucy Kagan and voiced by children trained on Broadway, The Way I See It… tells the stories of three children struggling to understand what makes us different. Ally, an insecure “popular” girl, Pearl, a classmate with autism, and Jeremy, a typical observer, must learn how to get along. This process is difficult for all three of them, but their journey is where your child will learn.
Seemingly straightforward, this narrative is rich and complex, carefully telling the story from the first-person perspectives of bully, bullied, and bystander. Opinions of the three characters will undoubtedly change over the course of the reading.
Developed by a team of teachers, clinical experts, and parents, the three stories overlap to teach respect for others in an engaging and sensitive way.
And the reading is hardly passive – questions and answers at the end of each story will test your child’s reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. It’s perfect practice for home conversations, classroom discussions, and literature circles.
This app is much more than just three books – slider puzzles, coloring pages, and hidden object activities will keep children tapping over and over again.
With interactive illustrations and replayable games, The Way I See It… teaches children to respect the differences and dignity of all people.
Designed by educators, illustrators and game innovators, The Way I See It… features:
•Three separate books that replay one school day from three different perspectives
•Kid-friendly and judgment-free language that explains autism
•Arcade-style hidden object, jigsaw and coloring games to match each story
•Lush watercolor illustrations accompanying child voices reading the story lines
•Social comprehension questions at the end of each book
Experience a deep understanding of bullying, inside and out, during a typical school day with The Way I See It…
