Vigilant is an affordable and hassle-free personal safety app that connects you to friends, family and emergency services without the need to take out your iPhone (in front of the attacker). The app is geared to work globally and especially in developing countries.

Here are some of the key features:
1. Unlike most personal safety apps that requires the user to find the app on the crowded screen and then open it to activate in times of emergency, Vigilant is designed to run in background and is triggered using accessories given below.
2. Sends your current location (along with GPS coordinates) by both SMS and Email to friends and family members informing them that you might need help.
3. Determines the emergency phone number based on current location and connect directly to them (Useful for international travelers).
4. Experimental feature: Can send SMS when there is no 3G network (Useful in developing countries).
5. Since Vigilant sends SMS/Email on your behalf, the user is not charged SMS fees from the carrier whether the intended recipient is local or international (Useful for international travelers).
6. No monthly fees.
7. Reduces false alarms by waiting for 30 seconds (user-configurable) before sending SOS to give user opportunity to disarm it. This feature is passcode-protected (default=1234), so only you can disarm it.
8. UI is designed to be low-key so as not to attract attention when it is dark.
9. Designed to be power-efficient. Only uses GPS when necessary.
10. Almost all the features are user-configurable.

Note: Vigilant will ask you to buy 20 credits for $0.99 that will allow you to send 10 SMS and 10 emails. So, if you are never are in emergency situation (and we hope you never do), the maximum you will end up spending on this app is $1.99. It is important to note that we do not charge to connect you to the local emergency number, so this feature should work even if you have 0 credits.
After careful thinking, we feel this mechanism is in best interest of our users; rather than charging them monthly fees or an overly expensive app or relying on service providers for hidden fees. We also decided not to put any advertisements as lot of them are power-hungry and can compromise the security of the app.

Accessories:
1. Earphone/Headphone: If you love to jog, simply click on headphone mode on main screen, which will prompt you to select songs/playlists/albums you want to play. Then lock the iPhone (as you usually do) and the app will play the music in background as you jog. When you are in danger, simply pull out the headphone and the app will be activated and will send SOS without you having to do anything else (unless you decide to disarm it).
2. In next versions: we will be adding additional accessories to activate the app without the user having to take out the iPhone.

Here are some of the creative ways, our users use the app:
1. Only use in times of emergency [Cost: $0.99 for app + $0.99 for buying 20 credits (1 sms or email for 1 credit)]
2. Cost-effective travelers: Download the app for $0.99, turn-off SMS/Email feature in Settings and use it as a convenient way to connect to emergency services.
3. Logging service for traveling employees (like truck drivers/delivery-men): Add your employer into Trusted member and press SOS to notify that you have reached certain location for easier and cost-effective tracking system.
4. Easier & cheaper location notification to your friends for meeting (for example: If you are planning to meet at certain location before heading out for a movie or dinner or party).
