The French painter, sculptor, and printmaker Edgar Degas (1834 – 1917) was a restless innovator in art, and is acknowledged as one of the finest draftsmen of his age. His main subject was the human figure, especially female, which he extensively explored during his life, producing countless portraits of laundresses, cabaret singers, milliners, and prostitutes, and especially ballet dancers. His art reflects a concern for human expression and movement.
This book contains many of Degas’ best known masterpieces, together with complete information about date, techniques, current location or museum; each painting is also accompanied with comments by the famous critic Camille Mauclair.
All the paintings are reproduced in high resolution, and can be panned and zoomed.
