Malayalam has over 75 characters in popular use. Instead of putting all of them on the screen, the Panini Keypad puts only the 11 characters that you are most likely to type. They are large, easy to spot and point.

At first these are characters that are statistically most likely to start a Malayalam word. If the character you want is not on the screen use the Next button till you get it.

After you have entered a character, the system starts predicting characters you are likely to write next. This goes on in a chain and most often it would predict correctly, if not, use the Next button.

The words will start forming for you magically and characters will occur on your fingertips.

But the beauty is also that it works for words within and outside the dictionary because this is a dictionaryless technology which is based on linguistics.

For Kootaksharam (half ka etc, consonant clusters) please put a Chandrakala in the middle of the two consonants. The Kootaksharam will automatically form. The Chandrakala is also a character, predicted automatically like others and shown in red for your easy recognition.

For giving space between words, single press the space button.

To make Purnavirama(full stop), at the end of sentence, twice press the space button.

For numerals & special symbols,click on (.?123)button.

In this latest version of Malayalam Panini Keypad software for iphone also facilitate you to type in English between Malayalam by switching to Qwerty keypad.(on top of keypad)


Note also that a matra - ( a dependent vowel ) is always written after the consonant, even if it actually occurs before in the written language. All the character types - consonants, independent vowels, dependent vowels are shown in different colours so that it is easy for you to understand, search and also learn.

You can send messages, emails in Malayalam which will travel to any phone anywhere in the world in Unicode and display if the font is present. You can also copy paste to FB and twitter.
